Testing Method
(1) Calibration of Digital Thickness Gauge
Use a stepped test block for calibration. Perform calibration on the test block whose thickness is close to the maximum value of the thickness to be measured and the minimum value of the thickness to be measured (or 1/2 of the maximum value of the thickness to be measured) respectively:
Place the probe on the thicker test block, adjust the "Sound Velocity Calibration" knob to make the display reading of the thickness gauge close to the known value; |
Place the probe on the thinner test block, adjust the "Zero Calibration" knob to make the display reading of the thickness gauge close to the known value; |
Repeat the adjustments until the correct readings are obtained at both the high and low ends of the measurement range. |
If the sound velocity of the material is known, the sound velocity value can be preset in advance. Then, place the probe on the test block attached to the instrument and adjust the "Zero Calibration" knob to make the instrument display the thickness of the test block.
(2) Calibration of Ultrasonic Testing Instrument
a) Use a stepped test block for calibration. Perform calibration on the test block whose thickness is close to the maximum value of the thickness to be measured and the minimum value of the thickness to be measured (or 1/2 of the maximum value of the thickness to be measured) respectively; |
b) Place the probe on the thicker test block, adjust the "Depth Range" knob until the bottom echo appears at the corresponding scale position; |
c) Place the probe on the thinner test block, adjust the "Sweep Delay" knob until the bottom echo appears at the corresponding scale position; |
d) Repeat the adjustments until the bottom echoes on both the thick and thin test blocks appear at the correct scale positions; |
e) When the thickness of the workpiece to be tested is large, adjust the instrument so that the range of multiple bottom echoes of the test block exceeds the thickness of the workpiece, and use the multiple bottom echoes to adjust the instrument. |
